Advent Season

Advent2015Beginning the Church’s liturgical year, Advent (from, “ad-venire” in Latin or “to come to”) is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas.

The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas).

Advent devotions, including the Advent wreath, remind us of the meaning of the season.  The purple candles symbolize the prayer, penance, and preparatory sacrifices and good works undertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, when the priest also wears rose vestments at Mass; Gaudete Sunday is the Sunday of rejoicing, because the faithful have arrived at the midpoint of Advent, when their preparation is now half over and they are close to Christmas.

A Letter From Father Kropac

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

On November 6th, Fr. Kropac distributed a very important letter to our parishioners.  A copy of that letter can be found at [wpfilebase tag=fileurl id=313 linktext=’this link’ /] along with hard copies available in the back of church.

Also, on November 12th, Bishop Perez published a letter on the protection of children.  A link to that letter on the Diocese of Cleveland website is provided below.

Christmas Story Run Volunteers Needed

Volunteer Opportunities Available!

My name is Leeann Whetstone and I am the Volunteer Coordinator for the

6th Annual running of A Christmas Story 5k/10k Run

taking place December 1, 2018.

We are looking for volunteers to help us out with the continued success and growth of A Christmas Story Run. Last year we saw added growth and we had close to 6,500 runners total.
Are you a fan of the movie A Christmas Story?  We would love for you to participate in all the activities and fun by volunteering for A Christmas Story 5K/10K Run!  We have several different opportunities available, so you can tailor it to your interests. All our volunteers will get their very own limited-edition tee-shirt.
All the proceeds earned from this run benefit A Christmas Story House Foundation; a non-profit foundation established to restore and maintain the neighborhood surrounding A Christmas Story House & Museum for future generations to experience and enjoy.
The foundation provides grants to projects that enhance and preserve the surrounding neighborhood.
To date, the Run has generated $389,500 for the Foundation.
